SpeedDial lets you sit back in your comfortable chair or walk around making your calls. Using your wireless headset (even Bluetooth) or speakerphone, Mac users can now roam free and Skype from as far as your wireless connections allow.

Getting Started:

  1. Open Skype and launch SpeedDial for Skype.

  2. When Skype opens, you will see this dialog box. Select "Allow this application to use Skype."

Note: SpeedDial must be running to use with Skype. Once running, SpeedDial will recede to the background.

TIP: place SpeedDial in your Start-Up Items Folder (go to "Systems Preferences" and click on "Accounts") and BOTH will launch automatically at start-up.

To Add/Delete Contacts:
  1. Uncheck the Hotkeys box.

    To add a contact press the plus (+) sign. Either type a Skype number or select the name from the drop down list (upper right) from your Skype Contacts.    ***

    To delete a contact, select it and press the minus (-) sign.

  2. Check the Hotkeys box.

Note: SpeedDial automatically assigns a Hotkey to any contacts added. This will be the Option (Opt) key (on some keyboards will be shown as Alt) combined with another alphanumeric key. For your convenience, you may edit the Hotkey or Contact, as desired (eg. it may be easier to remember Opt-h for "Uncle Harry" rather than Opt-3!)

*** If you've added to your contact list in Skype, you can update SpeedDial's drop down list by clicking "Replenish" under SpeedDial for Skype in the menu bar . Or if you want to replenish at launch, go under Preferences. Note that this option will make the Skype security window display each time SpeedDial is launched.

You can now speed dial any contact and
Answer Call (Opt-Enter), Hang Up (Opt-Delete/Backspace), or call Echo123 (Opt-0)

TIP: Use the speed dial for Answer Call (Opt-Enter) any time you
want to bring Skype to the front as the active application.

Untether yourself from your Mac!

As part of your complete wireless VOIP solution, use SpeedDial for Skype with your favorite wireless keyboard and headset (including Bluetooth).

You can even have Skype announce when calls are coming in (see below) so that you don't even have to be in view of your screen to know a call is coming in. (eg. "Incoming Call from Kristy Hammond.")

1. Open Skype, and click "Skype" on the menu bar.
2. Click "Preferences" and "Events."
3. In the menu (right), select "Incoming Call" from the Event menu.
4. Put a check in the "Speak text" box.
 
Skype will now announce your caller by name. You can edit the phrase as desired.
